Alicante City Council is issuing a public tender for the lease of 27 hybrid SUV patrol vehicles to update the Local Police fleet, with a tender price of €1,998,137.16.
The call follows the purchase of new bikes, police vehicles, and vans for various services for roughly 750,000 euros.
According to Julio Calero, the Security Councillor, “The City Council is making a great effort to renew the Alicante Local Police fleet with the addition of new units every year, such as these 27 new patrol cars, which are included in the government agreements at the proposal of the Vox municipal group.”
“At the end of last year, 10 600cc BMW motorcycles were added, and this year, another 13 vehicles will be added to reinforce urban patrols and operational brigades, as well as an adapted electric vehicle that was added to the island of Nueva Tabarca this Wednesday to offer better service to the public,” the representative said.
Hybrids
This purchase of 27 hybrid SUV patrol cars follows the recent addition at the end of last year of 10 motorcycles (BMW) for around 144,000 euros and, more recently, another nine SUV vehicles (Ford Kuga), to which it is hoped to add another 6 patrol cars, three all-terrain vehicles for Rural Party surveillance, and two service vans from the most recent contract tendered to renew the fleet of police vehicles for another 600,000 euros.
Furthermore, a new contract for uniform renewal has been issued for more than 800,000 euros, and distribution to the various units is planned to commence after the summer, coinciding with the start of the school year.
Calero stated that work on the Local Police Headquarters on Locutor Vicente Hipólito Avenue will begin in September. The project, which has a €2.8 million budget, is planned to finish the first phase and become operational in April 2026.
“This is a major project being promoted by the Popular Party government team under the terms of the governing agreements with Vox.” It will increase the visibility of the Local Police and allow us to continue implementing the new district organisation, including current and new police stations, as well as the addition of more officers and increased resources.”
