In recent weeks, the Crevillent Local Police detained two women for allegedly robbing elderly persons using the so-called “hug method.” The deployment of preventive citizen security controls throughout the municipality made this measure possible.
Various courts across the nation held the two detainees on active warrants. In addition to their detention, officers seized and impounded two vehicles associated with the incident.
This style of theft involves approaching elderly people, pretending to be affectionate or grateful, and then stealing watches, chains, or other jewellery under the guise of giving them a hug. Police activity has led to the discovery of numerous jewellery items, and efforts are underway to return them to their rightful owners.

Police in Crevillent have released photographs of the arrests, partially revealing the criminals. “They look like ordinary people, but they are very dangerous,” they warn, noting that this form of robbery is frequent in several Valencian municipalities.
“We don’t think they want to return to Crevillent… but if they do, we’ll welcome them with our ‘hug,’ one that comes with handcuffs,” the police force ends jokingly.
