Councillor Toni Such has urged residents and visitors to “join forces to eliminate the practice of indiscriminately disposing of waste and, as a result, disregarding the ordinance on civic coexistence.”
He also emphasised the importance of citizen collaboration, urging the public to submit photos or videos to the council when they observe an individual “disposing of waste in an inappropriate location” and “causing a significant public health issue.”
In a statement, the councillor cautioned that “these uncivil behaviours carry fines that can reach 3,001 euros, a deterrent measure intended to raise public awareness about the seriousness of uncontrolled dumping and its consequences—both environmental, economic, and health—as well as its impact on safety.”
The City Council is contemplating the imposition of higher fines
The L’Alfà s City Council opted to increase penalties for non-compliance with the municipal ordinance just over a year ago. Fines of up to €3,001 for unrestrained dumping are now in effect. “We are currently in the process of evaluating the implementation of new measures that will render it impossible for violators to evade the existing penalties, in addition to further increasing them,” he stated.
The city council has asserted that “this type of behaviour not only violates municipal regulations, but also creates significant problems for the entire community, directly affecting the quality of life of residents.”
“In a municipality with a strong tourist vocation, these discharges also seriously damage the image of the destination, with negative consequences across the board,” stated the City Council. The council also noted that L’Alfà s del Pi has two recycling centres, one in L’Albir and another in the town centre, on Calle Tauró and Reino Unido.
In these locations, it is feasible to effectively manage the removal of household refuse that is not suitable for disposal in trash containers, including electronic devices, household goods, pruning remains, or debris.
Paper and cardboard, glass, packaging, batteries, electrical and household appliances, oils, aerosols, fluorescent lights, household products, scrap metal, and plant remains are all accepted at the recycling centres.
