Operation Basseta, an investigation into the murder of a man whose corpse was discovered in a rural area of the municipality of Villajoyosa in December 2024, has entered a new phase with the arrest of five individuals by the Guardia Civil. The Civil Guard suspects these individuals of plotting and concealing the crime.
The perpetrators and collaborators who were involved in the planning, execution, and cover-up of the crime have been apprehended.
A married couple residing in Villajoyosa, a man and a woman aged 48 and 38, were recently apprehended. It is alleged that they conducted numerous meetings at their residence prior to the incident.
This couple provided the shooter with the murder weapon, a can of petrol for disposing of the corpse, and a portion of the agreed-upon payment for the execution, according to investigations.
Additionally, a 44-year-old man has been apprehended for supplying the weapon used in the offence. Additionally, two additional individuals have been apprehended for allegedly aiding the perpetrator in evading justice by concealing the weapon and other evidence following the murder.
Examination
The alleged mastermind, a former companion of the victim, commissioned the crime in response to a financial dispute between the two, according to the investigation.
The perpetrator was to receive 20,000 euros in payment, with a portion of the sum being delivered to the residence of the couple who are currently in custody days prior to the murder. The gun that was used in the crime was also delivered.
The shooter, who is currently incarcerated, allegedly sought the assistance of two acquaintances, two men aged 31 and 26, in concealing the weapon and other incriminating items following the victim’s execution.
Documents
The Guardia Civil discovered a can of petrol, which was likely intended to be used to destroy the vehicle and the victim’s corpse, during the searches. Additionally, they discovered a shovel and hoe that were used to bury the weapon in a mountainous area near Penáguila.
A portion of these objects were discovered in the residences of the individuals who were responsible for the cover-ups. An additional 2,000 euros was retrieved from an acquaintance of the shooter who was not involved in the incident by the investigators.
Individuals in custody
The perpetrator’s two companions, who are being charged with accessory after the fact, were released with precautionary measures, while the couple and the man who supplied the weapon were held in custody without bail.
The number of individuals detained in Operation Basseta has now reached eight as a result of these arrests. Further proceedings are not ruled out, and the investigation, which is being conducted by the Homicide Team of the Organic Judicial Police Unit of the Alicante Command and directed by the Investigative Court No. 3 of Villajoyosa, remains open.
