A fire in the El Altet area, located at the head of one of the airport’s runways, necessitated the cancellation of several departures and the postponement of others on Wednesday July 30th. The fire disrupted aircraft takeoffs for a portion of the afternoon by affecting a region of vegetation and shrubs near the airfield. Nevertheless, landings proceeded as usual.
The fire was brought under control after the alert was received at 7:52 p.m. There have been no reported injuries. An emergency operation was initiated to prevent the fire from spreading and to guarantee the safety of the area due to the proximity of the flames to the airport facilities.
The extinguishing efforts were conducted by thirteen firefighters from the Elche fire station, who were organised into three departments: a heavy urban fire department, a heavy tanker fire department, and a command and leadership unit. Additionally, an officer, a sergeant, and two corporals were present. Furthermore, two aerial vehicles, forest fire units, and two units from the Alicante City Council were also involved.
