The special traffic operation for August 1st commenced at 4:00 p.m. yesterday, Thursday July 31st, and will persist until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 3rd. According to the Government Delegation, the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) anticipates that the country will experience 6,880,000 long-distance journeys during this period, with nearly one million of these trips (965,264) taking place in the Valencian Community.
The entrances and exits to the Alicante ring road, which spans from kilometre 0 to 31.2 of the A-70 highway, and the accesses to Altea, El Altet, Santa Pola, and Torrevieja via the N-332 will be the most challenging roads and sections in the province of Alicante during this operation.
The peak traffic hours and days will be as follows: Friday, August 1, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Nearly 14 million journeys will be made on the region’s roads during the two summer months. On the occasion of Operation 1º de agosto (August 1st Operation), the Government Subdelegate in Valencia, José RodrÃguez, has urged responsible drivers to remember that “road safety is a collective commitment that begins with each one of us.”. Additionally, he talked about the importance of “planning your journey, adhering to speed limits, avoiding distractions, and refraining from operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
Additionally, RodrÃguez emphasised the importance of “maintaining a safe distance and utilising lanes appropriately, reserving the left lane for overtaking, to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.”
In the Valencian Community, three fatalities were recorded in three incidents, two in Alicante and one in Castellón during the most recent campaign, which was conducted during the Santiago de Compostela festival in other regions. The deputy delegate emphasised the significance of “compliance with traffic regulations to avoid casualties” and stated that “the law enforcement agencies will work to ensure safety and smooth traffic on the roads.”
This year, there have been sixty fatalities
The Valencian Community has experienced 60 fatalities on its roads thus far this year, which is five more than the previous year. According to the Government Delegation’s data, distraction, inappropriate speed, and alcohol or narcotics were the causes of over half of the fatal accidents..
Eight individuals lost their lives on the highways of the region between July 1st and 27th. This represents a decrease of two fatalities from the same period in the previous year.
Conversely, Operation Crossing the Strait (OPE) is currently underway, which also involves a substantial volume of individuals travelling by road. In 2024, it permitted the passage of 847,429 vehicles and 3,442,770 individuals.
The exit phase of the 2025 OPE will commence on June 15th and conclude on August 15th, while the return phase will commence on July 15th and conclude on September 15th. Consequently, the number of long-distance movements on the A7 and AP7 highways would be increased as a result of this special August 1st Operation, which would apply to both phases.
