National Police officers have arrested a man in Alicante for driving a high-end vehicle with false license plates from Belgium. An off-duty officer spotted the car.
The investigation began when an off-duty police officer was driving along the A-31 near Alicante and spotted a high-end vehicle with license plates that, he observed, showed “clear signs” of being fake, the Police Headquarters said in a statement.
The officer alerted the 091 CIMACC Room of the situation so that patrol cars could intercept the vehicle, while he discreetly followed it until they reached a shopping centre in the city, where a patrol team also responded.
The patrol intercepted the vehicle and identified its occupant. Subsequently, verification of vehicle information began.
After searching police databases, they discovered that the vehicle’s license plate number corresponded to another model and that the car’s registration certificate also included the license plate number corresponding to a truck.
Regarding the driver’s version of the incident, he claimed to have purchased the vehicle from a Belgian car dealership. He also stated that he had driven it himself from there.
In response to these events, officers arrested the 48-year-old man on suspicion of document falsification. The suspect has been brought before the city’s investigating court.
