The National Police have arrested four individuals on suspicion of electricity fraud and narcotic trafficking. They are accountable for the establishment of three substantial marijuana plantations, which are in a residence in El Palmar (Murcia), two warehouses in the Alcantarilla industrial estate, and the Murcia district of La Alberca.
During their routine investigations, National Police officers directed themselves to the Alcantarilla industrial estate to identify potential locations for large marijuana plantations. There, they discovered the initial marijuana plantation, which is suspected to be associated with two additional plantations in La Alberca and El Palmar.
Officers were able to confiscate over 1,300 marijuana plants, over 100 electrical transformers, and intricate ventilation and cooling systems that were employed in the plantations to evade detection by law enforcement during the police operation.
New evidence of the level of professionalism and resource optimisation employed by those involved, as well as the substantial volume of marijuana they are processing to supply the national and international markets, is provided by the seizure of three machines used to skin marijuana plants.
Additionally, National Police officers confirmed that criminal organisations that specialise in international drug trafficking make substantial investments in conditioning and compartmentalising the spaces where they establish large indoor marijuana plantations. This involves the differentiation of the growth and maturation stages, thereby achieving a rotating effect in the development of marijuana plantations to guarantee a consistent supply.
The objective of this highly organised criminal organisation was to obstruct investigators’ ability to locate and trace them by employing individuals as front men to lease properties in the name of third parties and offering them financial compensation.
The National Police operation concluded with the apprehension of four individuals who were subsequently transferred to the judicial authorities. The men were charged with drug trafficking and electricity fraud.
