Security inspections of numerous fireworks sales locations throughout the municipality have been initiated by the Local Police of Elche (Alicante). This special operation will persist until August 13th, the day of the Nit de l’Albà, as a result of the “increased use of gunpowder during these days.” The primary objective of the operation is to regulate the sales, storage, and transportation of pyrotechnics.
Caridad Martínez, the Openings Councillor of the Elche City Council, announced that this year, in addition to the customary 23 fireworks sales points in the city centre and adjacent districts, four portable temporary points have been authorised in the Carrús area and Avenida de la Universidad.
Martínez, as per a statement from the local institution, underscored the “importance” of conducting these safety inspections to “verify their proper functioning.”
The officers examine administrative authorisations, the various pyrotechnic products, and compliance with the safety measures established by law, in addition to the sale of this material to juveniles or discontinued products, as per the City Council.

José Antonio Corrales, the inspector of the Elche Local Police Activity Unit, stated that this work is conducted in all establishments authorised by the Department of Openings. He also noted that “the primary anomalies are associated with issues in the approval of the products in accordance with the official catalogue,” which results in their immediate removal from public sale.
The inspector also stated that these inspections are conducted to ensure the “utmost safety for users of pyrotechnic devices,” particularly those that are intended for minors or those in category F3 for those over 18, such as wheelbarrows or rockets, which present a “medium or high” risk.
Conversely, Corrales underscored that the inspection campaign is being conducted on land plots in the region that is impacted by the Nit de l’Albà holiday “to guarantee their good condition and prevent any potential damage.”
