A Lithuanian fugitive, who is the subject of two European arrest warrants issued by Lithuanian authorities for public order offences and bodily harm, was arrested in Benidorm after refusing to provide his identity to a National Police patrol that stopped him on a public street for allegedly using narcotics.
The 43-year-old fugitive, who was in the company of another individual, was arrested after he repeatedly declined to disclose his identity to law enforcement. He was taken to police headquarters to ascertain his identity, as he lacked identification.
Sources from the Provincial Police Station reported that he was arrested for resistance and disobedience after continuing to refuse to provide any identification information upon arrival.
He was ultimately identified and discovered to have two outstanding European arrest warrants (EAWs) issued by the Lithuanian authorities in 2015 and 2016, respectively, for public order offences and bodily injury, after reporting the incident to the judicial authorities.
After being sentenced to two and five years in prison, the defendant escaped Lithuanian justice. He is accused of committing offences in two Lithuanian cities between 2011 and 2014. In both instances, he caused injury to a third party in a public location while under the influence of alcohol.
The Central Investigative Court of the National Court has been tasked with the responsibility of processing the detainee’s extradition, following police investigations.
