In Salinas (Alicante), Guardia Civil officers have dismantled a marijuana cultivation that was situated within an industrial warehouse. They have confiscated 1,516 plants and 8,200 kilogrammes of marijuana buds. Additionally, two individuals who are purportedly implicated in the incident have been arrested.
The Guardia Civil initiated the investigation in June following anonymous reports of “unknown persons” and “strange movements” at the location, according to a statement from the agency.
The agents conducted a visual inspection of the warehouse based on these indications. During this inspection, they confirmed the absence of any known commercial activity, the boarded-up or covered doors and windows, the installation of surveillance cameras, and the presence of air conditioning units connected to extraction pipes, all of which are “characteristic of this type of cultivation.”
The objective was to identify and apprehend the alleged perpetrators by increasing surveillance in the vicinity. A Guardia Civil patrol from Sax observed a van exiting the warehouse under investigation on June 20th. They proceeded to identify the van and a car that was also leaving the site, although the latter could not be intercepted at the moment.
A 54-year-old man was the solitary occupant of the van, and a substantial quantity of soil, marijuana stems, and leaves were discovered within it.
Subsequently, additional officers visited the warehouse, which was now closed. They observed plasterboard interior partitions, carbon filters to conceal the plantation’s odour, and yellow illumination, which is frequently employed to promote plant growth, through an open window.
A search of the property was requested and conducted in response to this evidence, resulting in the seizure of 1,516 marijuana plants and 8,200 kilogrammes of marijuana flowers. The driver of the van was apprehended in connection with the incident.
In the days that followed, the proprietor of the vehicle that fled the scene was identified through investigations. He was a 58-year-old person who resided in Petrer (Alicante) and had rented the vehicle from a rental company. On June 22, he was apprehended.
The defendants were brought before the Villena District Court of Instruction, where they were charged with a crime against public health for marijuana cultivation, despite the fact that they had no prior criminal record. The first defendant was incarcerated without parole by the court, while the second was released.
