A fire at a private sauna situated in a ground-floor and semi-detached house in the San Luis-El Chaparral residential area was managed and extinguished by firefighters from the Torrevieja fire station early Thursday morning, August 14th.
The crew arrived at Plaza Marchena of the residential complex shortly after 1:15 a.m. The call suggested that the flat was on fire; however, upon their arrival, the firefighters entered the building through a window and found that the fire was actually emanating from an outdoor space, a sauna, after inspecting the upper and lower floors.
Smoke and flashover
A sauna cabin was discovered to be on fire, emitting a substantial cloud of smoke. Firefighters worked assiduously and meticulously to extinguish the fire, as they identified the occurrence of flashover, or sudden combustion.
A hazardous phenomenon that takes place in small, enclosed spaces during fires and is defined by the simultaneous combustion of all combustible materials as a result of the accumulation of hot gases and heat.
It has the capacity to produce extremely high temperatures. This is the reason why firefighters, as evidenced by the accompanying images, promptly opened and closed the door to combat the fumes and flames.
The initial hypotheses indicate that the fire may have been caused by an excessive buildup of heat as a result of a short circuit, a malfunction in the heating system, or the wooden stove.
Renovations are currently underway at the residence.
The Torrevieja Provincial Consortium’s fire station dispatched all available firefighters, as well as a heavy fire engine and a ladder vehicle, to the fire site.
