The Javea Local Police unveiled its latest semi-rigid boat, a critical asset that will augment the force’s operational capabilities in the areas of coastal surveillance and maritime rescue.
The Court and the General Subdirectorate of Conservation, Administration, and Realisation of Assets have transferred the 7.40-metre-long vessel, which is equipped with a potent 300-hp engine.
This addition will enable the Local Police to enhance the safety of residents and visitors by optimising their coastal patrol duties, responding more promptly to maritime incidents, and providing assistance in emergency situations.
“L’SCOBETA” is the name of the new vessel, which is a tribute to the maritime origins and history of Xàbia. “L’SCOBETA” was the name of an ancient coastal watchtower situated in the Granadella region. It served as a strategic vantage point from which to observe and safeguard the littoral. This appellation establishes a connection between the current dedication of the Local Police to the protection of the sea and its inhabitants and the local seafaring tradition.
The mayor of Javea, Rosa Cardona, and the councillor for emergencies, Juan Ortolà, expressed their satisfaction with this addition, which will enhance the Local Police’s operations. They also expressed their gratitude to the GEAS (Special Group for Underwater Activities) of the Civil Guard for their collaboration during the presentation ceremony. “The Guardia Civil’s invaluable support has been indispensable in enabling us to acquire this instrument, which is indispensable for our maritime operations,” they declared.
The integration of “L’SCOBETA” is a significant improvement in the maritime resources of the Local Police, ensuring the greater protection of the coastline and all those who appreciate it, as well as a qualitative leap forward.
