A 24-year-old man has been apprehended by the Guardia Civil as part of Operation RB 25 on suspicion of three counts of larceny, two counts of theft, and five counts of fraud. The perpetrator was arrested prior to his departure for Morocco, as a result of anonymous information that expedited police action.
After receiving a succession of preventative measures from the Albatera Local Police, the investigation commenced in June. The reports contained an incident that occurred at a nearby gambling hall. The manager notified the authorities after observing a customer making multiple withdrawals of €19 through the establishment’s POS terminal.
Officers discovered two bank cards in the soles of the individual’s shoes during a cursory examination. He asserted that they belonged to an acquaintance; however, the PIN code for the card was unknown.
The Investigation Department of the Dolores Main Post initiated an investigation in response to this incident, which resulted in the identification of a criminal pattern. The suspect is purportedly responsible for accessing vehicles to steal bank cards, which he subsequently used to withdraw small amounts from a betting shop in Albatera. He exploited the fact that the terminal did not require a PIN code due to the amount being withdrawn.
A total of five victims were identified by the investigators. The victims were occasionally oblivious of the theft, as the alleged perpetrator entered the vehicles without the use of any force. The mother of an acquaintance of the suspect was the owner of one of the stolen cards, which was taken from her residence when the family was negligent.
A patrol from the Dolores Main Post apprehended the suspect in Albatera. A new bank card associated with an additional potential victim was confiscated during the subsequent inspection. His attempt to flee the country was thwarted by the officers’ prompt action, which also put an end to a series of illicit activities that had a significant impact on numerous individuals associated with Albatera.
The detainee was hauled before the Orihuela District Court of Instruction, which subsequently ordered his release on bail.
