This summer, in the Valencian Community, the province of Alicante is responsible for the preponderance of heat-related fatalities. The Ministry of Health’s MoMo system attributed 205 fatalities in Alicante to heat from June 1st to August 20th, which accounted for two out of every three deaths in the entire Community.
The figure is higher than the 208 fatalities that were recorded during the same period last year. However, it indicates that the province remains the most susceptible to extreme temperatures.
The most recent heat wave, which commenced on August 11th, has resulted in 74 fatalities in Alicante. The majority of these fatalities occurred between August 17th and 20th, which were the most deadly days of the summer.
There have been 309 heat-related fatalities in the Valencian Community thus far this summer. Of these, 205 have occurred in Alicante, 72 in Castellón, and 32 in Valencia.
