The firefighting operations in Castile and León are being reinforced by provincial and municipal firefighter teams from Alicante, who are helping to combat the severe forest fires that are currently devastating the region.
The Alicante Provincial Council’s Fire Brigade Consortium deployed a team of 21 firefighters and five vehicles to the region.
The operation will collaborate with Castilian-Leonese commanders to enhance response capacity, mitigate the danger of the fire’s propagation, and safeguard the natural environment and civilian population.
Toni Pérez, the president of the provincial institution, declared that the firefighters of the Alicante Provincial Council “once again, demonstrate their generosity, solidarity, and dedication to service.”
“We are extremely proud of each and every one of them, as we are aware that they are entirely dedicated to extinguishing these fires,” he concluded.
Furthermore, logistics and communication apparatus, as well as two Mobile Operations Units, three Heavy Rural Pumps, and one Light Tanker Pump, will be deployed.
This operation is a component of a response that includes 134 firefighters, approximately twenty vehicles, and drones from the Valencian Community being deployed to the region. The Department of Emergencies is responsible for the coordination of this operation.
Currently, twenty-six forest fires are raging in Castile and León, and there is a possibility that other fires that have originated in Galicia and Extremadura could also expand to the surrounding area.
Ten of the 100 firefighters in Alicante are members of the Alicante Fire Prevention, Extinction, and Rescue Service (SPEIS) of the Alicante City Council, which also dispatched four vehicles.
As a consequence of the forest fires that have already claimed the lives of four individuals, as well as the destruction of thousands of hectares and dozens of homes, Mayor Luis Barcala declared that “Castilla y León is currently experiencing a dramatic situation.”
Consequently, he continued, “We, the Alicante City Council, have mobilised a contingent of firefighters and resources to assist the rest of the Community during a very challenging time when all the assistance we can offer is necessary,” in coordination with the Consell.
“We are witnessing the fire destroying everything in its path, including the homes of dozens of individuals who have lost everything and those who have been evacuated due to the imminent danger of the flames and are uncertain about what they will find upon their return,” he continued.
“Our thoughts and hearts are with all of them, and we will provide assistance in any capacity for as long as is required while we await the improvement of weather conditions and the resolution of this human and environmental disaster,” the mayor declared.
