The Torrevieja Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) decries the fact that the overwhelming majority of the municipality’s parks and gardens remain neglected, despite the new multi-million-dollar contract. The Socialists, who had previously denounced the lack of maintenance at the September 2024 municipal plenary session, use the Altos de la Bahía park as an example. “This park is in a significantly worse state than was previously reported as a result of the PP government team’s failure to take action.”
“The Council has never stopped paying” the joint venture formed by the companies Actúa and Gestión STV, which is responsible for park and garden maintenance, the agreed-upon monthly bills totalling over 260,000 euros, as stated by Socialist councillor Margarita de Francisco, following the termination of the contract and the applicable extensions.
Nevertheless, de Francisco is of the opinion that the Council’s Office has not exercised sufficient supervision in ensuring that the UTE responsible for providing the service complies with the agreements. Further, the Socialist councillor is of the opinion that “this is an endemic issue for this government.” Despite the fact that the city council has had a contract with Actúa since April 2022 for the comprehensive maintenance of the municipality’s irrigation network, as well as some other minor irrigation repair contracts that are difficult to manage administratively, it is evident that a significant amount of the flora and herbaceous plants have died due to a lack of water. This is evident when one simply walks through the parks of our municipality.
“The awarding of the new multi-million-pound contract to Actúa Servicios y Medio Ambiente SL does not guarantee that the image of our parks will change in the short term. The current situation is irreversible due to the lack of appropriate action by the company in charge and the approval of the local PP government, which means the deterioration of the parks and the loss of vegetation are at a point of no return.”
