The Guardia Civil officers have arrested a violent robber at a supermarket in Santa Pola (Alicante). The robber pointed a pistol at the cashier and injured a customer who was about to pay by stealing a pendant.
The Guardia Civil have announced that the robber has been remanded in detention without bail by a court order. The robber is accused of committing two robberies inside a supermarket that involved violence and intimidation.
The suspect entered the establishment, concealing his face with a cap and sunglasses, and conducted himself in a manner that was consistent with that of any other consumer who was purchasing a product at the register.
He subsequently took out a handgun that he had concealed in the front of his pants and pointed it at the cashier, demanding the money from the register. The employee was able to activate the alarm device three times; however, he was unable to prevent the robber from fleeing the store with the loot.
Additionally, it is alleged that the suspect violently seized a gold pendant and a cord from a customer who was awaiting payment at the register during the robbery, resulting in injuries.
The Guardia Civil was able to identify the putative perpetrator, who had a history of property crimes, as a result of citizen collaboration and descriptions provided by witnesses. He was apprehended in an abandoned residence.
In addition, the stolen cord and pendant, which had been sold at a local gold dealership, were recovered. Additionally, a hiker in the Santa Pola mountains discovered some of the apparel and the weapon used in the robbery.
The Elche District Court of Instruction ordered the detainee to be detained in pretrial detention without bail, along with the seized belongings. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain whether the detainee is potentially implicated in other crimes of a similar nature in the area.
