With the €101k award of a planning and feasibility study, the Valencian Regional Government has taken a big step towards moving the building of the TRAM line between Gandia, Oliva, and Denia forward. This project will figure out what kind of infrastructure is needed to link the Safor and Marina Alta regions, bringing back train service to areas that lost it in 1974.
Carlos Mazón, President of the Generalitat (Catalan Government), said that the new line “will meet a long-standing demand, shorten travel times, improve citizens’ quality of life, and boost one of the Mediterranean’s most prosperous areas.”
Mazón said that the central government, which is in charge of railways, has not yet made joining the coast a priority. He asked everyone to work together to pay for the project. The Catalan Government (Generalitat) “will continue to support safe, efficient, and sustainable public transport,” he said. This is similar to what it did when it spent €40 million to electrify the line between Benidorm and La Vila.
Plan the project
The planning study will look at different options for the train platform and the public transport services that are needed along the Valencia-Alicante axis. This includes local, interlocal, and long-distance travel. Once it’s done, it will make it possible to move forward with building projects and carry out the works.
It will also be used as a starting point for planning the infrastructure needed to build the railway platform between the three towns, as required by Law 6/2011, of April 1st, on Mobility in the Valencian Community. This will be the first step in writing the information study and the construction plans that go with it.
This study will look at different ways to build a TRAM rail platform that connects the towns of Gandia, Oliva, and Dénia. It will do this by looking at the public rail services that are needed along the Valencia-Alicante axis. This will help people travel within and between regions and across long distances, as well as improve connectivity and territorial integration. As soon as the study is over, the building can start.
The work to build the Gandia-Oliva-Dénia line will include a study of the current train services and possible new ones in the future. To do this, different starting points and ending points, service frequencies, and journey times at the regional, interregional, long-distance, and high-speed levels need to be figured out. It will also be looked at whether it is possible to work together with private services.
