A 57-year-old man was arrested in Alicante by the Guardia Civil on suspicion of breaking into several homes in Sant Joan d’Alacant and Mutxamel that were occupied. The man, who has a long history of illegal activity, has been remanded in custody after being sent there by the Investigating Court No. 5 in the capital of Alicante.
A statement from the Guardia Civil said that the man who was arrested is facing five counts of burglary, one count of theft from a building with people in it, one count of theft from a business and two counts of fraud for reportedly using stolen bank cards fraudulently.
There were several accounts of break-ins in homes in Sant Joan d’Alacant and Mutxamel, so the Investigation Department of the Guardia Civil’s Main Post in the former municipality started an operation to try to figure out what happened.
Officers were able to identify the alleged criminal after looking into different cases and analysing evidence. He was said to have a set pattern of behaviour: he would break into homes during the day and, if caught, would act like he was lost and ask for water to make the victims less alert.
The man who was arrested also reportedly “targeted bags or backpacks to steal cash and cards, which he later used to pay for things in establishments” “every time he could.”
Together with the Alicante National Police North Station, the alleged criminal was found and arrested once his name was known. €582 that had something to do with the event was also taken away.
