A young man was caught by the National Police in a municipality in Almería. He is suspected of bringing fake 100-euro notes into shops in Málaga and Murcia and buying clothes from well-known brands with them, according to a statement from the force.
The man who was arrested and is now back in jail drove to different towns in a rental car and bought things in both small and large shops to bring in fake money.
His house was searched, and several high-end pieces of clothing and an electronic gadget were taken possession of.
At the beginning of July, several fake bills were found in businesses in the city of Murcia. This was the start of the probe.
Police investigations led them to identify the accused criminal as a young man from a town on the coast of Almería who rented a car and drove to several cities, mostly Murcia and Málaga, to commit the crimes.
During the monitoring, police found that the suspect took many safety precautions to make it hard to find him, both when he was driving and when he was walking on public roads.
After identifying and locating the suspect, police arrested the accused counterfeiter and searched his home, where they found many clothes that they thought were bought with fake money.
Two cell phones were also taken, and the judicial authorities have been asked to look at them to try to figure out where the money came from. After being brought before a judge, the man who was caught was sent back to jail.
