A 43-year-old man was arrested in Alicante by National Police on suspicion of trafficking and receiving stolen goods. From his home, the suspect ran a place to sell drugs and a place to get stolen goods. An enormous amount of jewellery and electronics, such as high-end mobile phones, tablets, and computers, were taken during the search. Because of the police action, a large sales and reception centre for stolen goods had to be taken apart.
When the police started their investigation, they focused on a house in the northern part of Alicante that was used to sell drugs and receive money from different crimes.
The detectives’ work showed that the stolen goods and jewellery found at the house were the result of crimes like violent robberies and burglaries that were carried out by outsiders, most of whom were regular drug users. If the thieves wanted drugs or money, they would take the stolen things back to the house and trade them for drugs or money.
Selling for more money
The goods were sold for a lot more money once the suspect had them. They did this by putting them on the black market or taking them to Algeria or Morocco and selling them in auction houses that were not regulated.
With the information they had so far, police got a search warrant to find the offender and arrest him. Then a house check was done, and a lot of jewellery and electronics, like high-end mobile phones, tablets, and laptops, were taken away because they were used for illegal activities. They also took a precision magnifying glass and an electronic jewellery tester, both of which are used by jewellery workers to make sure that jewellery is real.
The suspect was turned over to the Alicante investigating court after police looked into the case.
The agents took steps to make sure the things were from where they said they were, and some of them were given back to their owners.
