The award, established in 2011 at the request of the Neighbourhood Council, honours those who have demonstrated a model of coexistence and dedication throughout their lives in Benidorm. Ana Pellicer, Councillor for Citizen Participation, introduced this new edition, which will accept nominations beginning today Monday, September 1st and running until September 30th.
As stated in the call’s rules, any individual or entity may apply for the award by submitting a form to the Neighbourhood Council or the Department of individual Participation.
Solidarity and tolerance
The proposal must include the signatures of three individuals or a legal organisation, as well as a paragraph outlining the individual’s qualifications for this recognition. These qualities, he said, “must be related to respect for people, solidarity, peaceful coexistence, and tolerance among citizens, along with personal sacrifice, solidarity, or personal improvement.”
Finally, the council will select three finalists, who will then be presented to a jury for their decision, with the jury having the last say. The Exemplary Neighbour Award committee is in charge of selecting this jury, whose head, Teresa Garrido, stated that it will be made up of five “significant individuals, chosen by the Neighbourhood Council Committee, all of them Benidorm residents and unrelated to any candidate.”
Exemplary neighbours
Furthermore, excellent neighbours who have received prizes in past editions will be included if they desire to do so. “We invite associations to nominate the best neighbour they have who meets the requirements,” according to Garrido.
