As part of Operation Moonwalker, the Guardia Civil arrested a suspect on a beach in Málaga for allegedly starting six forest fires across the province. The arrested person is currently in prison. The Guardia Civil announced an investigation into six fires that occurred between July 2nd and August 24th in regions with significant ecological importance in Mijas, Ojén, Alhaurín de la Torre, and three in Alhaurín el Grande.
The fires were classified as incipient fires because they were quickly detected by environmental officers from the Andalusian Regional Government and extinguished by Infoca personnel, preventing them from spreading and causing further damage, given that they were set in areas near large stands of trees and urban centres. The Guardia Civil launched investigations to clarify the incidences, and the officers assigned to the assignment discovered a pattern in the fires that occurred during daylight hours and in difficult-to-reach locations. As a result of the inquiry, they identified a guy who was present for all of the fires and discovered evidence indicating he could have been responsible.

For all of these reasons, they launched a search and arrest operation and found him last Sunday, August 24th, in a camper he was residing in while on a beach in Málaga. After being recognised, the man revealed to authorities that he was responsible for the fires and was detained on six counts of forest arson. The arrested man was hauled before the court authorities, who sentenced him to prison. Officers from the Málaga Guardia Civil Command’s Nature Protection Service (Seprona) collaborated with the Forest Fire Investigation Brigade of environmental officers from the Andalusia Regional Government to carry out this action.
