On Friday night, August 29th, there was a traffic accident in Elche involving a pedestrian bus and a car. The collision happened around 10:00 p.m. on the CV-851, near the Los Limoneros residential area, when the bus was heading to Arenales del Sol. The accident resulted in a partial road closure, which sparked enormous excitement among locals and cars, with several vehicles stopping in the area.
First Aid and Traffic Control
An ambulance arrived first, about 10:30 p.m., and treated the injured on the scene. According to sources, the preliminary count is two persons with minor injuries. Given the officers’ initial absence, one of the paramedics was compelled to take to the road to control traffic and avert more incidents.
Arrival of security personnel
Two Elche Local Police and Guardia Civil vehicles arrived on the site shortly after, about 10:40 p.m. Municipal police attributed the delay on traffic congestion outside the MartÃnez Valero stadium after Elche CF’s match against UD Levante, which hampered their arrival.
The reason of the accident is being investigated. The investigations included alcohol and drug tests on the drivers, which is typical procedure for this type of event.
Possible presence of an animal
During the investigation, a passing motorist stopped to enquire whether a black dog had been crossing the road at the time of the collision. This has not been proven, and the police are still investigating all possibilities.
The accident has resulted in two minor injuries and material damage to both vehicles. The investigation is ongoing to determine what occurred on this portion of the CV-851.
