The prompt deployment of emergency service resulted in a happy ending to the disappearance of a 90-year-old woman in Benissa. Following the woman’s disapperance yesterday, Monday September 1st, her relatives in this town in the northern province of Alicante immediately raised the alarm.
The elderly woman, who has dementia, had left her home that afternoon. When her relatives realised this, they called to start looking for her. The Local Police, Guardia Civil, and the Alicante Provincial Council Fire Brigade Consortium all took part in this operation.
The woman was discovered in just over 30 minutes, thanks to the assistance of a neighbouring homeowner. In that short time, the elderly woman sustained a leg contusion and was removed by firefighters and basic life support workers.
The notification’s quickness is one of the keys to successfully resolving this absence. This is emphasised by several sources connected with the case, who state that the shorter the period, the easier it is to find the person.
According to authorities participating in the inquiry, the summer season has the highest number of reported disappearances of older persons. The pleasant weather encourages outside activities, unlike winter, but it can also be dangerous owing to the heat, which can induce additional disorientation.
