Members of the Valencia and Alicante Provincial Consortiums performed two helicopter rescues in different towns: a man who fell from a kayak in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell (Alicante) and a hiker in the Valencian town of Villargordo del Cabriel.
The first rescue occurred in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, specifically Cala los Tiestos. A 46-year-old male kayaking crashed in the heavy waves and collided with the rocks.
The A1 chopper summoned to the site took the injured guy to the Finestrat helipad, where a Basic Life Support unit was waiting. According to the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU), the unit treated the man and sent him to Marina Baixa Hospital after he sustained a lumbar contusion.
The Valencia Provincial Fire Consortium sent the V-990 helicopter, the GERA group, and a Forest Fire Brigade unit with a fire engine to Villargordo del Cabriel to rescue an injured woman who was trekking near the Cabriel Gorges. The woman fell and hurt her foot.
Because the region was difficult to reach, the woman was flown by helicopter to the Alzira helipad and transferred to medical staff.
The Valencia Consortium also sent a V-990 helicopter with a doctor and a sergeant from Alzira, the GERA rescue company, to an incident on a woodland trail in Llombai to assist a cyclist who had fallen and wounded himself. However, air rescue was not required, and the injured person was taken by medical staff from the Generalitat (Catalan regional authority).
In this case, the CICU also dispatched a Basic Life Support unit, which treated the 53-year-old male who had sustained face damage and lost consciousness. He was taken to the Hospital de la Ribera.
