The Guardia Civil arrested a 40-year-old woman and her 19-year-old son-in-law on narcotics trafficking charges. The woman’s 18-year-old daughter is also charged with child abandonment.
The two inmates and the seized drugs were turned over to the Orihuela Judicial District Court of Instruction, which authorised their release on bond. The Orihuela Costa Council was contacted, and the youngster was turned over to Valencian Community Social Services.
The events began last July, when the Guardia Civil discovered that cocaine sales were taking place at a residence on the Orihuela Costa. Operation Pinax was established by the Torrevieja Main Post’s Investigation Department to clarify the events and arrest those involved.
The agents were able to identify the household, which housed three adults (a grandmother, her daughter, and her companion), as well as a child
Baby pram
As the investigation developed, it became apparent that the son-in-law and grandmother were involved in drug dealing. While the son-in-law sold drugs in the municipality, the grandmother intended to move a greater quantity to the province of Granada, hidden in a pram.
Officers returned on July 29th and searched the property under investigation, discovering that it lacked water and power and that the youngster was in poor health.
During the search, 5,137 kilogrammes of hashish were recovered, prompting the arrest of the grandmother and son-in-law. Due to the minor’s circumstances, the mother was investigated for alleged child abandonment.
Vulnerable groups
The Guardia Civil states that this action “reaffirms its commitment not only to the fight against drug trafficking, but also to the protection of the most vulnerable groups,” demonstrating that citizen safety is inextricably linked to the defence of human dignity and well-being.
