Alicante Local Police confiscated 1,000 counterfeit products during a special operation against illicit street vending near Paseo Mártires de la Libertad last night, Wednesday September 3rd.
The operation involved 15 police officers, who intercepted and removed 1,000 counterfeit products intended for sale on public streets. Specifically, the officers confiscated 900 counterfeit sporting items from well-known brands, 65 women’s handbags, and 35 caps.
Julio Calero, Councillor for Security, praised the “great work of the Local Police in addressing this problem, which seriously harms intellectual property, the regulated economy, and also violates municipal ordinances.”
According to the councillor, “this intervention is part of a special operation we are carrying out in collaboration with the Port Police, which we have reinforced this summer.”
The police operation, conducted by officers from the Rapid Intervention Operational Group (GOIR), lasted from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. . The operation resulted in the confiscation of 1,000 counterfeit textile products and handbags worth €30,000.
This operation follows the destruction of 2,000 kilos of counterfeit clothing by the Fox unit at the end of July at the landfill of items seized since Easter, as well as the seizure of 371 football kits, 168 pairs of glasses, 149 handbags, and five belts by officers at the beginning of August in a joint operation with the National and Port Police. This operation also involves minor operations that resulted from intensified monitoring in specific areas.
