The Burjassot Animal Protection Society (SPAB) continues to conduct monthly animal welfare education and awareness initiatives. In September, the SPAB highlights a typical urban risk: cats falling from balconies, terraces, or windows. A single error can be fatal, which is why the SPAB emphasises the need of having a safe home.
Feline falls, known as “parachute syndrome,” can result in fractures, internal damage, and, in some cases, death. Prevention is simple and effective: install sturdy, well-anchored netting or mosquito nets, secure clotheslines and railings, minimise unsecured swinging holes, and keep animals under supervision during construction, visits, or when disturbances may alarm them. To ensure their durability, the SPAB recommended that systems be certified and professionally installed.
Under the tagline “If you love them, you protect them!” the SPAB encourages cat-owning families to inspect their homes and take safety precautions, particularly on upper floors or internal patios. “A protected cat, a safe and happy cat” is the message the SPAB aims to convey to the public, along with practical advice and examples of preventive measures.
Anyone seeking advice on how to secure their home or want to participate with the SPAB can reach them by phone at 655 68 58 59 / 675 74 07 32 or via email at protectoraburjassot@gmail.com.
