According to a statement from the Police Headquarters, two men, aged 38 and 40, were arrested in Alicante after allegedly stealing 12 motorcycles in less than three months.
The police investigation began in response to a large surge in motorbike thefts in Alicante over a short period of time.
The police launched a series of police actions, revealing that the method utilised in several of the robberies was similar. They also linked the thefts to the selling of many helmets and other motorbike equipment at several secondhand stores.
Finally, the officers successfully recognised the two motorbike thieves and discovered the address where they lived and maybe stored some of the stolen stuff.
The police investigation concluded with a search of the alleged thieves’ home, during which detectives confiscated five helmets, paperwork, and accessories from the stolen motorcycles. Several of the stolen motorcycles were disassembled. Officers discovered parts from these vehicles at the accused suspects’ residence.
Police arrested the two suspects for allegedly committing twelve counts of vehicle theft/robbery. In addition, during the house search, one of the suspects presented officers with a bogus ID and was arrested for allegedly committing a crime of document falsification. Officers have recovered nine of the twelve stolen motorcycles.
The detainees, who have several criminal records, the most of which are for property crimes, were handed over to the Alicante Court of First Instance on duty following the police investigation.
