The condition of the Benidorm Local Police fleet is “deplorable.” This is corroborated by the Local Police Union (SPPLB), which states that only one of the force’s 12 motorcycles is in functional order. Only half of the 12 scooters are adequate for patrol.
In a letter to the Department of Citizen Security, SPPLB union secretary Frank González demands that this situation be corrected as soon as possible since it affects the “effectiveness” of police work, endangers officers, and portrays the city negatively.
Constant breakdowns
González describes this section of the police force as dismal. He claims that eight of the 12 motorcycles are more than ten years old “and break down easily”; two are completely unusable due to accidents; and one spends all of his time in the mechanic’s shop.
The situation is not improving in terms of the availability of mopeds, with a total of 12, but 6 of which are very old, ” they are almost discontinued and there are no spare parts to replace them when they break down.”
For the union, a situation that causes the Council to spend more money on repairs
