On Saturday, September 6th, Alicante Local Police uncovered a parcel of land where unlawful bullfighting was taking place, following an incident involving a heifer that escaped from a vehicle and forced the AP-7 highway to halt for 40 minutes.
The intervention began when a juvenile bull escaped from a vehicle and moved towards the AP-7 motorway, near the Assagador road, in Alicante’s rural districts. According to an Alicante City Council statement, this incident caused the route to be blocked for 40 minutes around midday, however no incidents occurred on the road.
Thirteen local police officers were rushed to the incident, and together with a group of citizens in the neighbourhood, they were able to intercept and immobilise the animal, allowing traffic to resume.
Following this operation, and after checking the direction of the truck transporting the heifer, officers travelled to a farm in the Rambla de Rambuchar area. They discovered that a bullfighting event, known as capea, was scheduled to take place in a small bullring that a private individual had rented from the farm owner and made available to a fan club.
After determining that the activity lacked the required licenses, the police filed a complaint and notified the Regional Police, who also responded to the scene.
