The National Police in Benidorm, Alicante, arrested a 36-year-old man on a European arrest order issued by French authorities. The warrant addresses sexual offences, property crimes, and drug trafficking. During his arrest, the detainee was discovered with fraudulent documents, which resulted in an extra allegation of document fabrication.
The incident began when a citizen security officer patrolling one of the city’s streets noticed a vehicle whose occupants fled when they saw the police presence.
When the car was halted for examination, the authorities determined that one of the passengers’ documents appeared to be forged. This resulted in the individual being taken to the police station to establish his identity and review the relevant documents.
At the police station, authorities discovered that the man’s true identification did not match the information provided in the bogus documents, leading to his arrest for document falsification.
Following proper identification, police databases were searched, revealing that he had an EAW against him from France for crimes such as drug trafficking, property crimes, and sexual assault.
According to a police statement, the subject departed France after being sentenced to ten years in jail in 2019 for offences committed in Marseille and Vitrolles.
According to the National Police, the apprehended individual was involved in narcotics sales and distribution, as well as extortion and threats made to several victims via phone calls and text messages. He is also suspected of burgling residences in collaboration with others and sexual assault.
Following the relevant processes, the detainee was handed over to the Central Investigative Court of the National Court (AN), which would handle the appropriate procedures for his subsequent extradition.
Arrest and False Documents
During a normal patrol in Benidorm, a citizen security officer observed suspicious behaviour in a vehicle. The occupants’ evasive behaviour caused the vehicle to be halted for essential checks.
During the examination, it was revealed that one of the passengers was presenting documents that clearly indicated fabrication, prompting his transportation to the police station for additional investigation.
Identity Verification
At the police station, officials confirmed that the detainee’s true identification did not match the information on the false documents he was carrying, leading to allegations of document fabrication.
A database search showed a European arrest warrant (EAW) issued by France for many serious crimes.
Charged Crimes
The apprehended individual is charged with drug trafficking, property crimes, and sexual assault, according to the French OEDE. He is also suspected of engaging in drug sales and distribution.
He is also suspected of extorting and threatening multiple victims via phone and text messages, as well as committing a home robbery alongside others.
Following the conclusion of the police investigation, the detainee was hauled before the Central Investigative Court of the National Court. This court will arrange for his extradition to France to face the outstanding allegations.
The extradition process will follow established legal procedures to ensure that the individual is tried in accordance with the law of the country that issued the EAW.
