The Benidorm Pride procession, the largest in living memory, drew several thousand people back into the streets on Saturday. September 6th. Thousands of people attended the cheerful, energetic, and colourful parade organised for the occasion, which began on Avenida Ametlla de Mar and ended at the Julio Iglesias Auditorium. It featured 18 floats and hundreds of participants costumed in various costumes to accompany the caravan, either in groups or individually.
It was the focal point of Benidorm Pride, a week-long event organised by the LGBTIQ+ community to mark the end of Europe’s most major Pride weeks. Rainbow flags, costumes, floats, trucks and throngs of people walking and dancing exemplified Benidorm’s diverse and welcoming side, which has set the standard for LGBTIQ+ tourism across Europe.
In reality, the organisers, the Council, and Visit Benidorm believe that over 20,000 people have come to the city particularly to participate in the celebrations and protests. The majority of these people were from the United Kingdom, as evidenced by their presence along the route and in the days preceding it, but many also arrived from other parts of Spain and Europe.
The parade began at the intersection of Ametlla de Mar and Paseo de Levante and continued along the beachfront to Avenida Europa, where it turned onto Avenida del Mediterráneo towards Plaza de la Hispanidad and Avenida de l’Aigüera, eventually arriving at the Julio Iglesias Amphitheatre, where the festivities continued.
