Firefighters worked tirelessly for over four hours to put out a fire at an underground car park on the Orihuela Costa. The incident was reported at 12:21 a.m. yesterday, Wednesday September 10th, on Calle del Mar in Cabo Roig, near the Aguamarina shopping centre.
Given the time and place, and the fact that there were less people than in August in this residential tourism area on the Orihuela coast, no casualties occurred. There was material damage, with four vehicles burning and 10 damaged.
Because of the excessive smoke, the five-story building had to be evacuated. The Torrevieja fire station, together with the Almoradà fire station, were summoned to the location when the fire spread to many cars. 15 firefighters were summoned, and after several hours of labour, the fire was extinguished at 4:02 a.m.
The Emergency Information and Coordination Centre had proactively mobilised a Basic Life Support unit, which was eventually not required.
