From September 15th to 22th, Cartagena will commemorate European Mobility Week (EMW), an occasion that blends civic awareness campaigns with inclusive, educational, and recreational events. Among these are Monday, the 22nd, Car-Free Day, and Friday, the 26th, which falls on the Carthaginian and Roman holiday and marks the end of the program, when free public transportation will be available.
“The event comes at a key moment, with Cartagena recognised nationally and internationally thanks to the Cartago Go! project and derived actions such as the Algameca Space,” said Cristina Mora, the Councillor for Mobility and European Projects, who presented the 2025 National Quality Award.
The program’s four main events are the Mobility Festival in Los Juncos on Thursday, September 18th , the Faro to Faro Route on Saturday, the 20th, in partnership with the Port Authority; the Accessible Route on Sunday, the 21st; and World Car-Free Day on Monday, the 22nd, which features free transportation, urban entertainment, and streets free of traffic. There will also be a lot of marches and bike rides over the weekend.
Other events include the 1st National Conference on Road Safety for Local Police, which was organised by UNIJEPOL in association with the City Council’s ESPAC, the 2nd Mobility Conference, and the presentation of the 2nd Award from the UPCT Chair of Sustainable Mobility.
