Torrevieja Local Police assessed the summer. Between June 1st and August 31st, they provided 14,802 services, a 75% increase over the previous year. The City Council explains this figure in part by increasing the number of police by 41, which allows them to cover more of the city and provide better service to citizens. This summer’s new features include the deployment of the school patrol, which has increased security in educational settings.
In terms of traffic, 468 accidents were reported, with only one fatality, demonstrating the effectiveness of preventive measures and the Local Police’s persistent monitoring. In addition, 63 reports were filed for traffic violations such as alcohol or drug use, speeding, or refusing to take a test.
In the criminal court system, 50 reports were filed, leading to 43 arrests for robbery, domestic violence, and resisting arrest. The prompt police response in all incidents is commendable. The local police also intervened to control the street merchants, seizing 128 packages. According to the statement, increased police presence has made the city’s streets less congested with street sellers and other irregular activity.
In addition, 420 complaints were submitted with the Provincial Traffic Headquarters, and 137 complaints were filed for noncompliance with local rules governing alcohol consumption in public places, animal welfare, contempt for officials, and property damage.
Federico Alarcón, Councillor for Security and Emergencies, presented a report with the Chief Superintendent of Torrevieja Local Police, Óscar Cartón, the Security and Emergencies Coordinator, Adrián Ballester, and the Director General of the Police, Alejandro Morer. The report emphasised the city’s commitment to maintaining and improving security.
