Ana Serna, the general secretary of the People’s Party (PP) in the province of Alicante, has urged that Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Transport Minister Óscar Puente immediately remove the toll from the AP-7 highway that goes through Vega Baja. She emphasised that the region is the only one having tolls in the entire province.
The Popular Party leader criticised Pedro Sánchez’s PSOE government for promising “to lift a toll that is still in place, so I ask him to stop lying and deceiving citizens.” “La Vega Baja is the only part in the province that requires payment to travel to Cartagena, and it passes through very touristy districts, making it a popular destination for Alicante residents from the south. Let them stop cheating us.”
As a result, she has asked Pedro Sánchez and his Minister of Transport to “immediately remove the toll from the AP-7 highway as it passes through the Vega Baja region,” Ana Serna stated.
The General Secretary of the Provincial PP and Vice President of the Alicante Provincial Council stated that the toll “not only remains the same, but also becomes more expensive during the summer months, precisely when the N-332 is most congested as it passes through Torrevieja.” “Instead of making life easier for the residents of the Vega Baja, Sánchez and his government are busy making their journeys more expensive, crushing families who have to travel on this stretch, and taking advantage of the hellish traffic in Torrevieja during the summer to divert more cars to a toll motorway that, on top of that, raises its price during the summer months.”
In this regard, he also demanded the widening of the N-332 highway through Torrevieja, which handles up to 55,000 vehicles per day during the summer. He requested that Minister Puente specify when he will complete these works, “which are so necessary for Torrevieja and, in general, for all the citizens of the region who need to access the coastal area.”
“Pedro Sánchez’s government has entirely abandoned the region and has not done anything to help its integration. Only Carlos Mazón’s regional government has progressed improvements to connect the region to the ocean by expanding a stretch of the CV-95 roadway. So, enough with these unmet promises! Let the PSOE finally get started on the N-332 and the urgent abolition of the AP-7 toll.”
Ana Serna also requested that Sánchez clarify whether the province of Alicante “will continue to endure for another year the unacceptable record of being the worst-funded province in all of Spain in the General State Budget.” “We don’t expect much from a president who abandons the Alicante regions and lies every time he speaks, but at least he should clarify whether Alicante will once again be the province with the lowest per capita investment in the entire country, because this province cannot tolerate this systematic disregard,” she told reporters.
“Alicante is the fourth most populated province in Spain, with about 2 million people. It accounts for more than 4% of national wealth, yet it receives six times less than its population and economic weight warrants,” he stated.
