According to the organization’s figures, 10,000 people took part in an anti-bullfighting march organised by the Animalist Party for the Environment (PACMA) on Saturday, September 20th, as part of the new edition of Mission Abolition, a national demonstration against bullfighting held in Madrid each September.
“The public response demonstrates, once again, the growing social rejection of bullfighting, which continues to receive significant public subsidies despite the fact that the majority of the population rejects these spectacles,” according to PACMA.
However, after several years of holding the event on the esplanade of the Las Ventas Bullring, the political party has moved the protest to Puerta del Sol.
The march travelled through the city’s main avenues, including Carrera de San Jerónimo, Plaza de las Cortes, Paseo del Prado, Cibeles Fountain, and Calle de Alcalá, before returning to Sol, accompanied by a batucada (drum band). The journey went smoothly and without incident in a peaceful and protest mood.
Influencers Thomi Skadi and Sandra Krief of the French animal rights party appeared on stage during the protest, as did the party’s national president, Javier Luna, and spokeswoman Yolanda Morales.
