Alicante City Council has pre-awarded a contract for the delivery of 27 Hybrid SUV patrol vehicles via financial leasing (lease) to replenish the Local Police fleet. Transitel SA placed the highest bid in the public procurement at €1,717,584.16. According to municipal sources in a statement, the new vehicles will join the service after an additional €1.1 million was spent at the end of last year on 18 patrol vehicles and crew units, as well as 10 motorbikes.
According to Julio Calero, the Security Councillor, “The City Council is making a great effort to renew the Alicante Local Police fleet with the addition of new units every year, such as these 27 new patrol cars that are included in the government agreements at the proposal of the Vox municipal group.” “At the end of last year, 10 BMW 600cc motorbikes were added, and this year, in March, 9 Ford Cuga SUVs supplied by Tysa were added. We soon hope to add 12 more cars to enhance urban patrols and operational brigades, as well as an adapted electric vehicle that was introduced to the island of Nueva Tabarca on Wednesday to provide greater service to the public,” the councillor said.
This purchase of 27 hybrid SUV patrol cars adds to the recent addition at the end of last year of 10 motorcycles (BMW) for around 144,000 euros, in March another nine SUV vehicles (Ford Cuga) for 391,551 euros, and more recently another 6 patrol cars, three all-terrain vehicles for the surveillance of the Rural Partidas, two service vans, and one electric one for Nueva Tabarca, from the last contract tendered to renew the fleet of police vehicles for another 600,
“The municipality’s efforts to modernise local security services do not end with the renewal of police cars. Security equipment (bulletproof jackets, firearms, etc.) has also been upgraded. A fresh contract to update uniforms worth more than 800,000 euros was also awarded, according to the announcement.
New Leadership
Furthermore, Calero stated that work on the Local Police Headquarters on Avenida Locutor Vicente Hipólito will resume soon, with a €2.8 million budget to finish the first phase and ensure operational readiness by April 2026.
“This is a major project being promoted by the Popular Party government team under the terms of the governing agreements with Vox.” It will increase the visibility of the Local Police and allow us to continue implementing the new district organisation, including the remaining existing police stations and new ones that will be opened, as well as the addition of new officers and resources,” he added.
