The National Police arrested two men, aged 21 and 33, in Oropesa del Mar. They are accused of committing four burglaries in residences in Benidorm, stealing more than €18,000 and jewellery worth €50,000.
According to the National Police, the inquiry began after a victim in Benidorm reported that his residence had been robbed after breaking the front door lock, with 18,000 euros, 3,000 Chinese yuan, and gold jewellery worth around 50,000 euros stolen.
Officers related this event to another theft in the same town, in which the criminals stole €1,000 after searching the house.
When the victims attempted to enter the door, they were left clutching the lock, which had been removed by the culprits using some type of tool, according to police.
During the inquiry, investigators connected these occurrences to two additional attempted burglaries in Benidorm. In one case, the offenders were able to enter the home with the residents inside, while in the other, they broke the lock but left after being noticed by a neighbour.
After identifying the suspects, investigators tracked them down to their residence in Oropesa del Mar, from which they travelled to the sites where the thefts took place.
The judicially authorised search turned up stolen items such as 10 luxury brand handbags and three purses, two high-end watches, two cell phones, various pieces of jewellery, and €820 in cash.
The inmates were taken before the Castellón Court of First Instance on duty, charged with four counts of burglary. The investigation is still ongoing, and it is possible that the objects discovered are linked to additional thefts.
