The presiding judge of Valencia’s 15th Court of First Instance ordered the provisional custody of 41 of the 70 suspects arrestedon Friday night, September 26th, for alleged involvement in the cartel that trafficked cocaine into the Valencia Port.
According to the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV), 27 of those arrested face an unconditional prison sentence, while the remaining 14 might avoid it by paying bail.
The examining judge has also granted provisional parole to 29 additional detainees, subject to precautionary procedures.
The criminal organisation dedicated to large-scale cocaine trafficking in the Port of Valencia, which has been dismantled by the National Police, used the Port Employment Centre to select dockworkers by rigging exams or falsifying drug tests, to control the location of drug stash containers, and to warn of potential police operations.
They allotted the dockworkers’ work hours and places in this manner, allowing them to control how drug containers were positioned and alert them to police activities.
The Chief Commissioner of the Valencia Provincial Judicial Police Brigade revealed this on Friday. He further indicated that those arrested included “lower-level officials,” along with Port personnel such as stevedores, truck drivers, and transportation firm owners. “They were perfectly coordinated through a clear division of tasks,” he said.
During the operation, officers seized over 4.5 tonnes of cocaine, €365,000 in cash, and a variety of guns, including a rifle, a shotgun, three revolvers, a handgun, two pistol-point pens, two simulated weapons, a huge amount of ammo, and three Tasers. They also conducted 59 residential searches, 53 of which were carried out concurrently on Monday.
The records were produced in the towns of Valencia, Bétera, Alboraia, Picassent, Chiva, Benetússer, el Perellonet, Balcón de Montroy, la Pobla de Vallbona, Canet d’en Berenguer, Sueca, Godelleta, Albalat dels Tarongers, Mislata, Aldaia, Puçol, Massamagrell, Massalfassar, SedavÃ, AlgemesÃ, Quart de Poblet, and Sagunt, as well as the island of Ibiza.
According to the head commissioner of the Valencia Provincial Judicial Police Brigade, this operation thwarted eight cocaine extraction activities and eliminated “virtually the entire criminal structure.”
