A young man was stabbed on Monday night, September 29th, in Elche’s Carrús neighbourhood. The incident occurred at 10 p.m. in the northern section of the city and involved two groups of young people, who appeared to be immigrants. The motivation for the brawl, in which at least one knife was used and apparently confiscated by police, is unknown.
After receiving a call from 112 emergency services, local and national police reacted to the event. Officers discovered a young man who had allegedly been stabbed and apprehended at least one of the suspects, who was transported to the Elche Police Station. According to the same authorities, the injured individual was sent to Vinalopó Hospital with minor injuries. He is due to testify today about the event. The accused man will be taken before the police on a charge of assault because the victim’s wounds did not impact essential organs.
This incident occurred two months after a young man died in Plaza Primero de Mayo, Carrús neighbourhood, just a few meters from where a local police station was inaugurated in broad daylight. The perpetrator was arrested the same night. Following the crime, Mayor Pablo Ruz, who claimed that the opening of the local police station was not in reaction to the neighborhood’s insecurity, committed to increase security measures.
