According to the CSIF union, mailings are stacking up at the Correos Orihuela distribution centre, with 13,000 pending. There are 3,500 alerts and certifications, as well as almost 10,000 letters including medical appointments, subpoenas, aid requests, and a variety of other issues.
All of this, they point out, is due to the fact that the workforce is half-staffed, with 15 postmen missing, so “it cannot cope with the workload it has by taking on several neighbourhoods with very long routes,” the same sources emphasise, also regretting that the employees’ health is suffering as they try to make the best of the available work.
In response, CSIF urges that sufficient contracts be made available to satisfy the current workload and delivery dates without jeopardising postmen’s health or the service provided to the people of Orihuela and its neighbouring areas.
A few days ago, the union also criticised the situation on the coast as “unsustainable.” It had been stated at the time that “the accumulation of packages and notifications (mainly the result of poor planning and a lack of sufficient human resources) is causing service delays and daily overload for workers.”
Thus: “the unit’s workers are forced to endure workloads that are far beyond what is reasonable , which impacts both their occupational health and the quality of service that citizens receive,” he tweeted.
Faced with this situation, he demanded immediate measures from the company, such as providing sufficient staff, a more efficient organisation, and respecting its employees’ working conditions: “Without urgent solutions, the situation will continue to deteriorate, to the detriment of workers and users,” he warned.
They also discovered problems with the postal service in Callosa de Segura, specifically that this unit handles all mail from Rafal, Redován, and Cox, causing more harm to the community by failing to meet delivery dates, resulting in several complaints.
According to the same sources, with half of the workforce absent, they are unable to handle the accumulation of notifications and mail in neighbourhoods where employees are absent due to sick leave and transfers, leaving the rest to shoulder the workload “with the stress and pressure that this generates for the entire workforce,” they conclude.
