Guardia Civil police arrested a 28-year-old man in Villajoyosa on suspicion of being responsible for a marijuana plantation in a villa in the town. They also seized 400 plants in advanced stages of blossoming. The investigation is still underway, and additional arrests are not ruled out.
The investigation began in August after a complaint was received at the Guardia Civil station in this town about the discovery of an illegal water connection in a Villajoyosa home, resulting in water supply interruptions and bills of up to 8,000 euros to a third property for water supply fraud.
During the inquiry, investigators identified a fake connection to the public energy grid, with “abnormal” and “excessively high” usage, which was documented thanks to the utility company’s assistance, according to a Guardia Civil statement.
After reviewing the records, it was discovered that the residence belonged to a bank. While conducting surveillance, cops detected a “strong odour” of marijuana. During the inquiry, they were able to identify the resident, a 28-year-old guy with multiple prior convictions for similar offences.
Using this information, investigators searched the house. They discovered a complicated indoor growing facility in the basement, complete with high-power bulbs, ventilation systems, extractors, and filters worth tens of thousands of euros, which officers seized.
The defendant, who was apprehended as the accused perpetrator of the plantation’s cultivation and detention and is charged with crimes against public health, power and water fraud, and damages, appeared before the First Investigating Court of Vila Joiosa, which authorised his temporary.
