Two men were arrested by Guardia Civil officials after they intercepted an all-terrain vehicle on the A-7 motorway near Sant Vicent del Raspeig, Alicante. The vehicle was carrying a semi-rigid boat taken from a French port the same day in a stolen semi-trailer.
The incident began on the afternoon of September 9th, when the Guardia Civil were notified of the geolocation of a boat taken that day at the port facilities in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer. The signal indicated that the object was going along highways in the region of Alicante.
Following this information, the Sant Vicent del Raspeig Guardia Civil Main Post initiated a search operation along the A-7 highway near a service station in the municipality of Tibi. Shortly later, officers observed an all-terrain vehicle hauling a boat with the same characteristics as reported, according to a Guardia Civil statement.
When the driver was stopped, he ignored the warning and ran for several km, leaving the road via a secondary exit. Officers eventually halted the vehicle, recognised the driver, and discovered a second man hiding in the back seats.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the semi-trailer was stolen in Les Pennes-Mirabeau in 2024, and the boat was stolen on the same day in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, in France.
Background for “A Multitude of Crimes”
Both were arrested, and the vehicles were transported to Guardia Civil facilities at the Port of Alicante, where they were deposited. The operation was conducted in close collaboration with the Centre for Police and Customs Cooperation (CCPA) and the Supplementary Information Request at the National Entries (SIRENE) offices, which confirmed the criminal records of those arrested in France for “multiple crimes against persons, property, and organised crime.”
The passenger in the vehicle was wanted by French authorities on a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) for murder, and the Sant Vicent del Raspeig Judicial Police Team handled the investigation.
The apprehended males, who were charged with two charges of vehicle theft, appeared before the Duty Court of the Alicante Judicial District. The court authority authorised the arrest of a man wanted by French authorities. In addition, the seized boat, semi-trailer, and SUV were presented to the court.
