Storm Alice, which is hitting the province of Alicante with more than 100 litres of rain per square metre in certain parts, has also hampered air travel, but there haven’t been many problems.
According to Aena, two flights have had to be cancelled at Alicante-Elche Airport as of 3:00 p.m. today Thursday, October 9th. One was coming from Barcelona and the other was going to Barcelona.
Also, six flights had to be diverted because of severe rain and a storm over the airport when they were supposed to land in Alicante. Two flights went to Palma de Mallorca, two to Malaga, one to Ibiza, and one to Madrid.
In any case, everything has been normal so far, even though 375 flights are scheduled for today.
Aena, on the other hand, suggests that travellers check with their airline about the status of their flight because of the weather.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) says that at 2:00 p.m. this Thursday, “Alicante-Elche Airport is reporting a heavy downpour with thunderstorms at the airfield and horizontal visibility” of 1,500 metres. There are also very active storms between San Vicente del Raspeig, Alicante, and parts of the Vega Baja, such as Bigastro.
Renfe
Renfe has also stopped running trains between Alicante and Torrellano because of bad weather that damaged the infrastructure. In that area, the southern road leading to the capital has flooded because a lot of rain fell in a short length of time.
Because of this, Renfe has set up a road service for trains on the C-1 line of the Murcia/Alicante commuter rail network between Torrellano and Alicante.
