Bárbara Soler has said that the City Council could have lessened the damage from the most recent flood in Torrevieja if they had taken advantage of the regional subsidy that has been available since 2021 as part of the Vega Baja Renhace Plan, which was put in place by Ximo Puig’s government after the 2019 disaster.
Soler said, “The Botànic gave Torrevieja more than a million euros to do projects, work, or buy land to improve the stormwater system, but the PP has kept the money frozen for years and only moved the files when they were about to lose the funds.”
The Socialist spokesperson said that the last meeting of the city council approved the start of the contract for the building project that will include the Avenida Roentgen collectors. “We’re not even talking about the work yet; we’re talking about the project.” “If we had started these projects on time, we could have completed them by now,” she stated.
Soler remembered that the Socialist Party had already spoken out against the initiative in 2023. The government team said that the regional help was “insufficient” and that the City Council had already spent more than 8.5 million euros on managing stormwater.
They didn’t say that this money didn’t come from the City Council; it came from AGAMED.
The Socialist councillor said, “They can’t expect the Generalitat to pay for the work they haven’t done in all their years in office and that is their job.”

Bárbara Soler says that “the PP was about to lose a million euros because of carelessness and bad management.” The worst thing is that as Torrevieja keeps flooding, Mr. Dolón invites President Mazón to take pictures of them in the rain, and pointing to the horizon while they congratulate themselves on their management, which is clearly lacking.
The socialist ended by saying, “Torrevieja needs planning, not propaganda.”
