The National Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in Alicante on charges of robbery with intimidation. He is accused of trying to steal another man’s moble phone after agreeing to sell it, which the victim was offering on a secondhand internet shopping site Wallapop.
The individual who was detained wanted the phone and made a deal with the victim to buy it. The two met in a nearby part of the city, where the buyer is said to have violently taken the phone from the seller’s hands at one point during the transaction and run away.
The victim chased after the thief and caught him. He took advantage of the fact that the pocket of the bum bag where the phone was hidden was open and pulled it out. The police said in a statement that the man who is now in jail allegedly grabbed a knife from his pocket and threatened the vendor. However, the seller hurried away with his mobile phone and left the area.
He then spoke to the buyer again using the phone of someone else who was interested in an ad he had made on the same site. He told the National Police about the incident when he got to the place and quietly observed the suspected culprit present after setting up a fresh meeting. The victim called the police, and they sent a unit to help. The victim told them everything that had transpired before.
At that point, the officers were able to identify the offender. He had the identical knife with him that he had used to scare the victim. After the police looked into the case, they detained him as the suspected offender and took him to the Alicante Investigative Court.
